Our newest combination treatment for Pigmentation Correction!

Do you battle with brown marks, dark spots or blotchy uneven skin tone? You may be suffering from a skin condition called Hyperpigmentation! Hyperpigmentation is one of the biggest skin concerns South African women struggle with, leading some feel really self-conscious and look prematurely older.

Here’s how our therapists at Legs eleven can help….
This winter, we have collaborated with Lamelle Research laboratories, to launch a signature pigmentation programme, for sufferers of Hyperpigmentation. We will be focusing on educating our clients about Epidermal Hyperpigmentation, how it is caused and how you can stop it (yes it can be done) to get you on the path to bright, clear, and even-toned skin.

Before and after 2 pigmentation peelsCo-owner of Legs eleven Sue Vaz, has this to say about treating clients with pigmentation, “To effectively manage and treat hyperpigmentation, the first step is to have a professional skin care therapist perform a thorough history and skin assessment to determine the depth and cause of the pigmentation. At Legs eleven we offer clients a free initial consultation where your therapist will analyse your skin under a special UV light to assess where the pigmentation is sitting (in the epidermal or dermal layer). If your condition is considered treatable she will prescribe a home care regimen to prepare your skin for our in-salon pigmentation correction peel programme and for the effective post-treatment management of pigmentation”

Her top tip to manage pigmentation is to avoid direct sun exposure and apply sunscreen to your face, neck, décolleté, hands, (and other exposed areas) every single day - even if it is cloudy or cool outside. Keep a tube of sunscreen in your handbag and don’t forget to reapply it every 2 hours if you are going to be outside in the sun or driving around in your car (yes UVA rays can penetrate through windows!)

Now for some more insight into the fight against Hyperpigmentation:

1. Pigmentation Correction Beta Peels = IN-SALON CHEMICAL RESURFACING TREATMENTS

This light superficial chemical peel, from Lamelle Research Laboratories contains Salicylic acid (known for its anti-inflammatory properties). It is focused on the treatment of uneven skin tone, sun-induced epidermal hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (discoloration caused by skin damage e.g. from acne, scars or waxing etc).

By removing the outer, damaged layers of skin, the Beta peel, erases pigmentation irregularities, whilst stimulating healthy cell growth underneath. A fresh, new healthy layer of skin is revealed which is softer, smoother, brighter and more even toned. A series of 3-6 Beta Peels, at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks, is recommended to resurface the skin, reducing the appearance of epidermal hyperpigmentation.

Critical to the success of any pigmentation peel programme, is proper pre and post-treatment skin care to lighten and manage the pigmentation at home with:

2. Correctives Brighter Concentrate= PIGMENT BLOCKER

This pigment-blocking serum from Lamelle Research Laboratories, provides a revolutionary solution to the complex problem of hyperpigmentation. It contains the unique compound Decabutin expertly combined with 4 patented pigment blocking peptides and a blend of conventional skin brightening ingredients. This advanced serum is able to block 8 steps in the pigmentation production pathway, for maximum efficacy in lightening dark spots and pigmented areas.

It has been shown to be more effective than traditional skin brightening ingredients such as Kojic acid and Beta-arbutin and equivalent in potency to Hydroquinone, but without causing any sun-sensitivity, irritability or bleaching of the skin. Brighter Concentrate can be added into any existing skin care regimen and should be applied twice daily on affected areas directly after washing the area. It can be combined with Lamelle’s Luminesce range for enhanced pigment suppression.

3. NEW Helase 50 photo repair cream = SUN PROTECTION AND REPAIR

The NEW Helase 50 by Lamelle Research Laboratories is the most advanced photo-repair cream in South Africa to fight against the effects of sun damaged skin and pigmentation. Sunlight physically damages (breaks apart) or mutates skin DNA over time. This DNA damage is what leads to impaired cellular function causing ageing, pigmentation disorders and even skin cancer. Until now Sunscreen and antioxidants have, been our only defence against preventing this DNA damage. But now, with Helase 50, for the first time we are able to not only prevent DNA damage, but also physically repair and reverse already existing damage to the DNA of skin cells, increasing the restoration and normal functioning of the skin.

Helase (with SPF 50) is also the only sun protection product that can protect the skin from the harmful effects of the FULL solar radiation spectrum (including IRB and IRC radiation) whilst also protecting the skin from heat damage from the sun. It contains break-through technology including the key DNA protecting enzyme, Photolyase and the patented Pycnogenol antioxidant blend.

Going forward once one’s skin is lightened and the pigmentation returns to normal, using sun protection remains very important to prevent future flare ups of hyperpigmentation and to combat skin ageing. Lamelle’s Ovelle D3 supplement (with patented pycogenol antioxidant blend) is recommended as a third step to combat and prevent hyperpigmentation internally especially for hormonally induced hyperpigmentation.

Customised treatment programmes

Legs eleven also offers personalised courses of treatments, which may combine Lamelles professional skin peels with other non-invasive modalities for enhanced pigmentation corection such as IPL Photorejuvenation, DermapenTM and TriFractionalTM Microablation. Dr. Kim Prescott and Dr Mariaan Kuhn oversee all medical treatments.
